Last year's runaway Bluegrass Stakes winner, Sinister Minister, will be running in a one-mile Allowance Optional Claim at Santa Anita on Saturday for trainer Bob Baffert.
In 2006, Sinister Minister won the Grade 1 Bluegrass Stakes at Keeneland by 12 3/4 lengths, leaving favorites Bluegrass Cat and First Samurai in his wake. Front-running in the Kentucky Derby, he took the lead from Keyed Entry, only to be overtaken by a large number of the field at the final turn into the stretch--as Barbaro took command.
The son of old Trieste (his dam is Sweet minister) returned in September at Del Mar's Windy Sands Handicap, but finished fourth. He bobbled in that race, and Saturday he gets blinkers for the first time. The N2X race will be run one mile on the main track.
