It's get-started-on-your-handicapping-early-time again as Santa Anita features five stakes on an 11-race card this Saturday, February 2nd. The Grade II, $300,000 Strub Stakes stars Tiago, Slew's Tizzy, and Great Hunter in a field of nine. The Grade I Santa Monica Handicap returns, with Jerry Hollendorfer trainee Hystericalady leading a field of six fillies and mares for $250,000. Two stakes will be contested by three-year-old colts, including one horse on the Derby trail whose name is better left unspoken at the GoHorsePower home office.
10 fillies are entered for the $100,000, Grade III La Habra Stakes, which will be run on 6 1/2 furlongs of Santa Anita's challenging downhill turf. For the boys, the Grade II, $200,000 Robert B. Lewis Stakes features a small field of five horses, including Meal Penalty again--he literally "also ran" in the San Pedro on January 20th. (Author's Note: I gotta admit, this horse's name just drives me up the wall.)
For complete entries for all of Saturday's races visit the Great Race Place online at SantaAnita.com.
