Storm in May drew the first post for Saturday's 133rd running of the Grade 1 kentucky Derby, choosing post number four. Sedgefield will take off from the rail, with undefeated Curlin in the two-hole beside stablemate Zanjero. 2006 Breeders Cup Juvenile champ Street Sense chose to keep company next to Hard Spun, the winner of five from six starts, who took the winning post of last year's winner, Barbaro, number eight. Last year's winning jockey, Edgar Prado will take Scat Daddy from post 14, for trainer Todd Pletcher, who has five horses entered. Pletcher's number-one, John Velazquez is running Louisiana Derby Winner Circular Quay from post 16. Blue Grass Stakes winner Dominican would be last to get a gate, left with post 19, and Great Hunter to his outside in the full field of 20 three-year-old colts. |

On Friday at Churchill Downs, 14 three-year-old fillies will get their once-in-a-lifetime chance to become Kentucky Oaks winners. The leading contender for the $500,000 Grade 1 Oaks is Rags to Riches, winner if two back-to-back Grade 1 Stakes, and three consecutive wins under trainer Todd Pletcher. Rags was considered for the Kentucky Derby and would have first tested colts in the Santa Anita Derby if connections hadn't decided to stick with the ladies. On Tuesday, Rags to Riches drew post 11 among a full field of 14. |

Saturday, May 5th, the 133rd Kentucky Derby will run in Louisville, Kentucky at one of America's most prestigious race tracks. Churchill Downs opened on Saturday, April 28 with the 7 1/2 furlong Derby Trial won by Flying First Class --a D. Wayne Lukas Maiden and Allowance winner who had yet to fire in a stakes. Saturday at Aqueduct, Todd Pletcher will run Cassydora --who is three-for-three under his training-- in the Grade 3 $100,000 Beaugay, contested at 1 1/16 miles over truf. Also on Saturday is the $150,000 Grade 3 Withers, a one mile event which produced last year's Preakness winner, Bernardini; and the Grade 3 $100,000 1 1/16 mile Fort Marcy over turf. |
