Preakness Post Draw Eve Print E-mail

The 132nd running of the Preakness Stakes is this Saturday, May 19. The post draw is Wednesday at 4:30 PM Eastern. With 2007 Kentucky Derby champ Street Sense, runner-up Hard Spun, and third-place Curlin on board for the Preakness, Michael Matz thinks Chelokee would be better off trying the Barbaro Stakes. Let's take a look at who's left to challenge this year's Derby trifecta at Pimlico this weekend...

Trying with five horses in this year's Derby, trainer Todd Pletcher didn't make the top four. But the one who got the closest, Circular Quay, is now being considered for the Preakness. Now there's a turn-around. First they gave him eight weeks off, and that didn't work. Now they want him back in two weeks already. Circular Quay closed in for sixth in the Kentucky Derby.

Meanwhile, Pletcher says King of the Roxy is set for the Preakness.

D. Wayne Lukas wants to race Flying First Class. The speed horse finally won a stakes in the Derby Trial after a couple of disappointing tries this past Winter.

Other probables include Mint Slewlep, trained by Robert Bailes; Xchanger , trained by Mark Shuman; and CP West, trained by Nick Zito.

Teuflesberg will finally get a break. The upset Southwest Stakes wire-to-wire winner has won four starts from 16 races. It was hard to even find two or three horses at the Derby who combined had raced as many times as Teuflesberg. This weekend Pimlico reported that trainer Jamie Sanders said “We need to do what is right for the horse. He has given us everything leading up to this spot, including the Derby. It was a tough decision, but it is a long campaign and we have a lot of races in store for him.” Teufesberg will be a great front-runner to watch after he's had some rest from Triple Crown junket. He could proabably use a cruise by now.

The Preakness Post Draw is 4:30 PM Eastern on Wednesday. Watch it on ESPN2 --the Deuce.
