At Laurel Park Saturday, Oprah Winney beat local favorite Silmaril by three quarters of a length in the Grade II Barbara Fritchie Breeders' Cup Handicap.
The race for fillies and mares three-years and up was run at seven furlongs. The win was the first Graded Stakes victory for the front-running Oprah Winney, and she now has a three-race winning streak. Anthony Dutrow stood in for his brother, trainer Rick Dutrow Jr., who is serving a 14-day suspension (for having contact with his assistants while serving a 60-day suspension in 2005 on account of two medication positives and a claiming rules violation).
