Honey Ryder, winner of last year's Grade 2 Sheepshead Bay Handicap, repeated with a one-length win over Belmont Park's inner turf on Saturday. Stablemate and co-favorite Safari Queen was second, with John Velazquez up. The $150,000 stakes run at 1 3/8 miles was completed in 2:13. Honey Ryder is trained by Todd Pletcher, and Garrett Gomez is the winning jockey. The winner paid $4.30.
The field was cut to seven when Barancella (trained by Barclay Tagg) and Factual Contender(trained by Robert Frankel) scratched out. James H. Bond trainee Hostess was third, and La Dolce Vita finished second for Mark Hennig.
Moon Dolly and Cliffrose lead a close-knit bunch, with Safari Queen tracking the pace from third and three wide. Honey Ryder patiently traveled next to last until the final stretch came up, and responded gamely.
