Met MileCorinthian, trained by James Jerkins and piloted by Kent Desormeaux won Belmont Park's Grade 1 Metropolitan Handicap by 3/4 of a length over bursting longhsot Political Force trained by Allen Jerkins, with Cornelio Velasquez riding. Lawyer Ron finished half a length behind second. The final time was 1:34.77.
Mr. Umphrey and Half Ours contested the pace, with both retiring from contention by the half. Latent Heat and Corinthian stayed close to the front-runners, with Corinthian four-wide. Latent Heat briefly lead into the stretch, but tired in the final furlong. Still wide, Corinthian gamely took over, pursued by Lawyer Ron who weakened late, with second conceded to a charge from Political Force.

The winner paid $21.60, with Political Force adding a nice chunk of change to the exacta at $285.00.

Sun King, second in last year's Met Mile, finished fourth for trainer Nick Zito.
