In a five-horse race, Cobalt Blue held off Air Commander with a two-length wire-to-wire victory in the Grade II San Felipe. Victor Espinoza was on the mount for his graded debut.
Cobalt Blue is two-for-two this year, and the solid win gives trainer Doug O'Neill another Derby contender. Cobalt Blue is a Merv Griffin enterprise. Level Red was third. It was 6 1/4 lengths back to the rest, with Todd Pletcher trainee Grapelli finishing last.
The final time for the 1 1/16 mile was 1.42.46.
